Alpine hosts many league finals and tournaments throughout the year. The Canterbury Red Devils compete in the NZIHL season that runs from May - September each year.

Stick & Puck Sessions are a great way to practise your skills or to get yourself into some skates and hit a puck around the ice to see what it's all about.

All ages and abilities are welcome at these session times.

All skaters who are on the ice must wear a helmet. Gloves, shin and shoulder protective gear is also highly recommended.

No slap-shots, or shots from above the knee.

No gear? You can rent the following from Alpine for the session
Rental skates, $4

Rental helmet, $4 (bicycle helmet)

Rental Sticks, $5 (availability limited)

Pucks, $4.20 each or 3 for $10

Welcome to the exciting game of ice hockey! We invite players of all ages to give it a go, and we're here to help you get started.

Ice Hockey activities are coordinated by Canterbury Ice Hockey Association (CIHA).

Learn to Play (LTP) sessions for children under 18 years of age are held all year round during school terms. Adults are welcome to Learn To Play during weekend LTP sessions in school Terms 1-3.

Through fun, engaging, and active games and exercises, we teach fundamentals such as skating, controlling a puck, passing, and shooting. All sessions are held at the Alpine Ice and CIHA use a concession card payment system so players can enjoy learning on a schedule and budget that's right for them.

If your child is new to hockey, try it for free! CIHA offer a free LTP session, basic gear included, so you can see if hockey might be right for your child. We also offer most gear for hire for a modest fee per term, enabling your child to continue playing without investing in gear yourself.

Are you an adult wanting to learn ice hockey? Although CIHA doesn't offer a free session for adults, there is a 3-Use "Give It a Go" concession card exclusively for adults for just $60.

If you or your child are new to ice skating and would like to develop skating skills before giving ice hockey a go (or doing both at the same time), it is recommended that you attend an Alpine Ice Learn To Skate program to enable you to progress more quickly.
