Team Work on Ice!

We are currently recruiting children, teens and adults for our Synchronised skating teams for the following competitive season.

Skaters must have as a minimum a pass at Novice 1 Kiwiskate level and the potential to attain their NZISA Elementary test by July next year.

The Alpine Ice Skate School currently has three Synchronised teams – two Adult teams and one 12 and under team. This is a growing sport and enquiries and new members are always welcomed. The aim is to introduce two new teams in the upcoming year.

Skaters begin learning the skills required for team membership within the Learn to Skate programs. Teams may participate in competitions, demonstrations and Ice Shows. Synchronised skating involves eight to twenty skaters on the ice at the same time and is characterised by intricate formations and manoeuvres, footwork, changing hand and arm holds, changes of direction and absolute uniformity.

Synchronised skating can be an extremely competitive sport, with teams all over the world. Many synchronised skaters also participate in other figure skating disciplines, especially stroking (which is now required of synchronised skaters to compete in qualifying competitions).

However, many teams skate ‘just for fun’ perhaps doing demonstrations and taking part in Ice Shows. No matter what your preference; there is an option for you.

Ask almost anyone involved in multiple disciplines and chances are they will tell you the same thing. There is a whole different feel to team skating...the comradery, the fellowship, the sense of "us." On the best teams, the members become more like a family than just a loose association of skaters.

Synchronised skating consists of five basic elements:

· Line
· Block
· Circle
· Wheel
· Intersecting manoeuvres
